Farouk Jiwa is a 29 Kenyan with several degrees in environmental studies. In the last 1990s, he undertook research on possibilities to revive the Kenyan honey sector and came across Honey Care International Limited, a start up that aimed at promoting Langstroth beehives in Kenya. However, the company was doing progressing and Jiwa convinced two Kenyan businessmen to take control of the company in 2000, acting as his financiers as he relaunched the company. While they toyed with the idea of commercial large-scale production, Jiwa convinced them to work with small-scale farmers in order to create a social benefit for a population with little economic opportunities.
